Ask Amy
Dear Amy: Is it bad to chat on the Internet?--Brianna, Alexandria, Minn.
Dear Brianna: Some people think online chat is good for kids because they are spending time thinking about how to respond to someone in writing. But chat rooms have a bad reputation because there is a chance of kids having private conversations with bad people who want to trick them into doing dangerous things. For example, it is so dangerous to agree to meet with someone you only know online. I like chat rooms where you can give your opinion about a specific topic. I think a good place to start is at Freezone at http:// freezone.com. Ask your parents to check it out with you. (This site is no longer available.)

Dear Amy: I have created a Web page off line. How do I get my page online?--Stef, Hamilton, Ont.
Dear Stef: Web designers often create their pages with a word processor and then make sure they look right with a Web browser before uploading the pages to a server on the World Wide Web. Most Internet Service Providers (ISP) offer free server space for your Web page when you purchase online access. You can use an FTP program to upload your image and HTML files to your account. Your ISP technical support staff can help get you started.
