How Do They Make Stained Glass? Issue Date: 07-06-1997

Cool Spots imageThe Kokomo Opalescent Glass company has put a tour of its glass plant online and invites you to visit. Come on over to www.kog.com click "Take the Tour", and watch these skilled workers make beautifully colored glass for use in lamps and all kinds of other things. Workers use ladles-a long, handheld, spoonlike tool weighing approximately 35 pounds-to measure ingredients and carry the molten glass. From your computer you can stay cool while you watch these artisans work with glass as it comes out of ovens where the temperature gets up to 2400 degrees Farenheit. Who says that you can't go on any more field trips since school's out? You won't even have to pack a lunch.
