Tour the USS Pampanito, maritime.org/tour, built to gather intelligence, control shipping lanes and conduct patrols during World War II. Submariners are volunteers representing an elite group in the U.S. Navy. Hear from a real sailor in the After Torpedo Room. Even though the captain had his own private stateroom, it was hardly luxurious. If you think your bedroom is small, check out the After Battery Compartment where the crew slept and more than doubled during its third war patrol.
