Dear Karlena: Search engines may not always provide the information you are seeking, for a few different reasons. First of all, a lot of information found on the Web may not be accurate. Secondly, the information you are looking for may not be indexed in the search engine you are using, or may not be available online. Lastly, the keywords you are using to search may not best describe what you are looking for.

Search engines use an indexing system that consists of three basic processes. First, they search the Web based on important keywords. Second, the search engine indexes these words with the sites they are found on.. Finally, Internet users can search for words or combinations of words. Sites in the index that match the word or combination of words are displayed with a title, description or excerpt from the Web page, and link to the page. Some search engines, such as Google, will rank the results with the most relevant results at the top of the page.
