April Fish

To my brother, April Fools’ Day gives him the chance to get away with all kinds of pranks. He’s tried everything, from putting a rubber band around the sink sprayer to pulling a dollar bill on the ground with a string. But I won’t be so easily fooled this year, and he better watch his back too!

No one is sure where the “April Fools’ Day” tradition originated. Many people believe the holiday dates back to the 16th century when the Gregorian calendar was adopted, changing New Year's Day from April 1 to Jan. 1. People who still celebrated on April 1 were known as “April fools.” In France, people who are fooled by practical jokes on this day are actually known as “April Fish.”
